Boundary Peak 6/13/15

On 6/13/15 I hiked Boundary Peak (3,855 ft) in Maine as part of a 4 day weekend hiking peaks on the New England Hundred Highest list. This hike was 4.03 miles in length with a total elevation gain of 1,319 feet. The weather was mostly sunny with patches of clouds at times and a light breeze

  • I started my hike from a small gravel pit located in Gosford Park over the border into Canada
  • This ATV trails leads out of the pit and is the one that I followed
  • After taking a right at a split in the ATV trail and crossing a brook, the trail heads up steeply over loose rock
  • This is where the ATV trail comes out onto the border cut/swath
  • This is the border swath looking left from where the trail comes out. On the left is Canada and on the right is the United States
  • Hiking down into a small dip along the border
  • So far I have been mostly in the clouds. Here they can be seen blowing over the border as they go up and over the ridge
  • One of multiple markers along the border indicating the two sides
  • A bit of sun coming out ahead
  • Getting closer, Boundary Peak is now in sight
  • Still following the border towards the summit

  • Miles at the summit cairn. This cairn is on the US side of the border where the high point actually is
  • A survey marker on one of the rocks in the cairn
  • Another boundary marker
  • Miles at the summit canister just into the trees on the US side. Boundary Peak is also known as Panther Peak
  • The view into the US was a bit cloudy while I was at the summit
  • Looking under the clouds into one of the valleys
  • The border continuing northeast
  • Looking back west where I need to return
