Mt. Israel 10/16/22

With sunny but mild weather predicted post peak foliage, it was time for Liliana and I to get out for another hike. Being a bit cool I thought we should hike something smaller from the NH 52 With a View list since she doesn't have as much good cold weather gear as I do yet. We picked Mt. Israel and ended up doing a loop up and over the mountain with a longer walk back to the truck since it was a nice day and we were both feeling good at the summit. The hike was nice, although the roadwalk before the end was a bit boring and hard on the feet. The hike was 9.68 miles total with 2,185 feet of elevation gain

  • This old house is right behind the parking lot at Mead Base
  • Kiosk next to the parking lot. Includes a map, parking fee donation bin, and information about the area. To go up the trail hike between the informational sign and the iron ranger (green parking donations bin) and immediately turn right. Follow the trail from there
  • Even though a lot of leaves have fallen, there is still plenty of green and some yellows on the trees
  • A neat little sidehill section of the trail
  • Liliana further up the trail before some stone stairs
  • Heading up the stairs
  • After crossing this small brook, the trail follows along it for a little while
  • The trail next to the brook
  • A bright yellow maple leaf on the ground
  • The trail as it turns right away from the brook
  • The trail goes under this bent/leaning tree. It has been leaning enough that the branches are going straight up looking for sun
  • Next to the leaning tree that the trail goes under there are multiple others just like it just to the side of the trail
  • In a section with many larger than normal trees, this cluster of 3 large oak trees stood out. All three are probably close to 2 feet in diameter each

  • Looking up to the blue sky through the leaves, changing from green to yellow currently
  • A leaf falling in front of the camera while I try to take a picture of Liliana
  • Liliana taking a snack and rest break
  • A wet rocky slab with leaves on it makes up the trail here. Enough rocks on the side to safely climb up today without going off trail
  • Along the trail is this nice little section of ledge that provides a few to the southwest
  • Squam Lake can be seen over the trees
