Mt. Nancy & Vose Spur 9/21/19 & 9/22/19

A weekend long hike grabbing two more peaks on the New England Hundred Highest list. Both of these peaks would be bushwhacks, but connected by a longer loop of established trails. My plan for hiking Mt. Nancy for a long time had been to do something similar to this loop so it made sense to combine the peaks as I would be going past the start of the bushwhack for Vose Spur anyways. Once I planned to make it a two day hike I added in some miles for redlining and finding a good place to camp for the night. Day one would be Mt. Nancy with 12.3 miles of hiking and 3,481 feet of overall elevation gain. Day two would be Vose Spur with 13.6 miles of hiking and 2,394 feet of overall elevation gain. Totals for the hike were 25.9 miles with 5,875 feet of elevation gain

• At the trail head for the start of a two day adventure
• Window stickers of an accomplished hiker at the trail head. Included are:
- New Hampshire 4000 Footers (48)
- New England 4000 Footers (67)
- New England 100 Highest (100)
- Adirondack 4000 Footers (46)
- Northeast 4000 Footers (115, despite the sticker saying 111)
• The first brook crossing of the day, nice and easy
• The early sections of trail were pretty gentle without too many rocks
• Still a gentle climb going up the trail
• Looking up Nancy Brook at the lowest crossing
• Some early foliage seen upstream
• An easy low water level to cross today
• Looking across Nancy Brook. The trail goes across here and past the two trees in the middle before turning left just after entering back into the trees
• This area has a lot of history and there are still some structures remaining
• This structure is right next to the trail, shortly above the river crossing
• The trail has been relocated higher up from the river. This is part of the newer section before the cascades where the trail has been cut into the hillside a bit. There were a number of small switchbacks in this section
• Nancy Cascades. There wasn't much water today, but it would be worth the hike this far on a day with good flow
• Nancy Cascades
• Nancy Cascades
• Nancy Cascades
• Nancy Cascades
• Above the cascades the trail gets steeper, rougher, and narrower
• The trail leveling out as it gets closer to Norcross Pond
• Lots of foot bridges through this section as much of the ground near/on the trail is a bit damp and soft
