Northeast Cannon Ball 5/28/16

Checking another peak off of the New England Hundred Highest list (82nd of 100 peaks), I hiked Northeast Cannon Ball (3,769 ft) on 5/28/16. The hike was a total of 9.40 miles with 1,909 ft of overall elevation gain and 3,152 ft of total elevation gain. It was hot and humid for most of the hike. At the base of the mountain is was near 90 degrees and you could feel the heat all day long. With the chance of rain and most certainly hazy skies, it was a good day to hike a mostly view less hike

  • The start of the trail inside the Lafayette Place Campground
  • A nice foot bridge early on for getting over a small brook
  • The Lonesome Lake Trail is very popular and has seen its share of wear and tear
  • After a switchback and still gaining elevation
  • Looking down an old section of trail that is still very visible
  • Shortly before the lake, the trail mostly flattens out
  • Supplies stock piled for some bog bridge replacements
  • Signs at the intersection at the lake
  • More bog bridge supplies on the edge of the lake
  • Lonesome Lake. The Kinsmans are in the clouds right now
  • Part of the hut can be seen across the lake
  • The eastern shore of the lake
  • The northern shore of the lake and the ridge line that leads up the middle Cannon Ball
  • Around the lake, there are plenty of bog bridges
  • These bog bridges are still in good shape. It's the ones after the lake that look like they need replacement
  • More bog bridges
  • A handy bridge over a brook. It's seen better days though
  • Heading up to the Kinsman Ridge Trail, it gets steep and rocky for a while
  • Things level out a bit before the Kinsman Ridge Trail, but stay rocky
  • Intersection with the Kinsman Ridge Trail
