Sandwich Dome & Jennings Peak 10/11/2013

On 10-11-13 I would Hike Sandwich Dome (3,993 ft) and Jennings Peak (3,460 ft). Sandwich Dome is on both the New England Hundred Highest and NH 52 With a View lists. While Jennings Peak is just on the NH 52 With a View List. This hike was 7.7 miles in length with a total elevation gain of 2,838 feet. The weather was overcast, but the views were still good.   • The trail starts be leaving the parking lot and running next to a power substation
  • Immediately after entering the woods you cross Drakes Brook
  • The first steady incline coming up the trail
  • The trail then levels off a bit
  • The trail surface starts to go over some open rock for a bit
  • Coming up the trail over exposed rock, all of a sudden there are a couple boulders
  • The large boulders right next to the trail. There weren't any others around
  • The trail gets steep and rocky as it climbs up to Noon Peak
  • Just before the actual peak of Noon Peak, there is a nice view point looking east
  • Mount Osceola and East Osceola
  • Mt. Hitchcock through the gap next to the Osceolas
  • The Tripyramids to the northeast
  • When I looked east between Sandwich Dome and Flat Mtn, there appeared to still be some color like at sunrise
  • Looking ahead to Sandwich Dome. The main goal for today
  • The opening that is the viewpoint near Noon Peak
  • On the ridge headed towards Jennings Peak, the trail was pretty gentle
  • As the guide said, plenty of moss and lichens in this section
  • An open piece of trail with Jennings Peak ahead
  • At the trail junction with the Drakes Brook Trail. 1.3 miles to go
  • More gentle trail as I pass Jennings Peak spur on the way to Sandwich Dome
