06-30-2010 Climb

The 7th hike of the year up Mt. Monadnock. It was a perfect day for hiking. Not too warm, low humidity, and some wind to keep you cool and the bugs away. I took a couple trails I haven't before and hiked to three more points of interest.

  • The Old Halfway House trail starts off pretty easy without much for climbs
  • In many places you can find trees that have fallen over the years
  • On the higher part of the trail it can get a bit narrow going through the bushes
  • A short birch tree with many branches next to the trail. Normally they get much taller than this
  • The first view of the summit from the old Halfway House site
  • View to the Southeast from the old Halfway House site
  • Flower at the old Halfway House site
  • The little brothers to the previous flower
  • More flowers
  • The Side Foot trail starts gently up the hill at first
  • It does get rocky in a few places though
  • When the Side Foot trail isn't heading straight up the mountain, it tends to follow right along the side of it
  • A piece of animal bone that I found on the trail
  • There was one very grassy section of trail
  • Where the top of the Side Foot trail meets the Amphitheatre trail
  • Looking Southeast down the Amphitheatre trail
  • Looking out to the South from the top of the Side Foot trail
  • Looking out to Bald Rock
  • Looking to the West from the Amphitheatre trail
  • Looking to the Southwest over Monte Rosa
