10-10-2010 Climb

13th hike up of the year. We started on the Marlboro Trail and worked our way over to Monte Rosa. Then up the Smith Summit Trail and down the Marlboro Trail after enjoying the view. It was sunny and clear out, but a little windy and the temp was only in the low 40's at the summit.

  • Where the trail register (notebook) is kept for people to sign a little ways up the trail from the parking area.
  • The start of the Marlboro Trail is very gentle
  • The first real climb on the Marlboro trail is probably the longest and maybe the steepest of the trail
  • Almost to the end of the first hard climb
  • At the end of the first hard climb is a small viewpoint. This one is much bigger and just a couple hundred feet more up the trail
  • View to the Northwest about 1/3 of the way up
  • View to the South over Perkins Pond
  • Our first view of the summit from the viewpoint
  • Where we are headed... Monte Rosa
  • Junction of the Marlboro and Marian Trails
  • My girlfriend checking out the Rock House
  • The Rock House with the summit behind
  • Looking up to the top
  • Starting down the Marian Trail
  • Large rocky opening next to the trail
  • Looking up some big rocks
  • As you enter back into the woods, the Marian Trail goes over some rocky areas
  • There are also some smooth sidehills on the way down the trail
  • There are a couple places along the trail where you gets views to the South
  • In the woods there is a jumbled area of rocks to cross
