12-17-2010 Climb

My 18th hike up the mountain of the year. It was a gorgeous day for a hike with mostly sunny skies turning into a few clouds. With the fresh new snow it made great scenery all over the mountain. The temperature at the summit was 15 degrees and the wind was blowing 20 mph.

  • Early on the White Dot trail I came across ice in the trail from water seeping out of the ground
  • A thin coating of snow on the trail
  • Looking up the White Dot trail at the intersection with the Cascade Link
  • Cascade Link trail sign. I am taking it all the way to the Pumpelly Trail
  • The start of the Cascade Link with only set of tracks in the snow
  • A brook that runs right next to the trail. Except for the gurgling sound under the ice, it blends in more now with the snow on top
  • The steepest section of the Cascade Link
  • The point that I decided I needed to put on my microspikes
  • In the second half of the trail you start to get plenty of views to the East
  • Thorndike Pond thru the trees
  • View to the East
  • Looking up the Cascade Link
  • Snow on the trees next to the trail
  • Ice was coming down this large rock just in the trees and was starting to engulf the branches nearby
  • As you can see by the lack of tracks, I am the first one up the trail this far since the snow fall
  • Looking up towards the Town Line Peak
  • A cliff above the Cascade Link
  • A closer view of the cliff
  • Looking back down the trail
  • Looking out the Northeast near the end of the Cascade Link
