11-04-2011 Climb

My 21st hike of the year up Mt. Monadnock. We had a big early season snow storm about a week ago, but much of the snow has melted. There was some snow still left with more as you got higher and some still deep drifts. The weather was great with nice sunny skies after a little cloudy start. It was windy, but not too bad. It was nice to be hiking in some snow again and I only saw a couple other hikers today and that was only at the summit, not on the trails.

  • Starting up the well worn White Dot Trail
  • Getting closer to the Cascade Link Trail
  • This large oak tree doesn't have much material in it's base, but is still alive and well
  • Early on the Cascade Link Trail I came to the snow. There was a noticeable temperature drop here
  • Crossing a brook the runs near the trail
  • Looking up the Cascade Link Trail at the base of the Red Dot Trail
  • Heading up one of the few hard parts of the Cascade Link
  • Starting to come out into the open a little now
