12-22-2012 Climb

An early morning hike for my last trip of the year. It was mostly cloudy all day with the clouds lifting enough for a short view on the summit. The wind was averaging 23 mph and gusting up to 32 mph. That made the 19 degree temperature on the summit have a wind chill of -2 degrees. The trails were a little more icy than expected, but not bad with traction aids

  • At the top of the Red Spot Trail
  • A nice view back to the summit before heading down off the ridge
  • The trail sign in the cairn at the intersection
  • View to the summit from near the top of the Red Spot Trail
  • View east over the side of the mountain
  • The Pumpelly Trail heading down the mountain
  • One of the most recognizable cairns on the mountain
  • A section of large broken rocks on the Red Spot Trail. A little tricky coming down with the ice and snow
  • The trail heading further down into the trees
  • A rock filled section of the trail
  • Getting closer to the end of this trail
  • A brook crossing just before the lower end of the trail
  • Almost back to the trailhead with little snow or ice remaining
