Sunset 05-17-2013 Climb

After getting out of work early, I hiked the mountain to catch the sunset from the summit. It was nice to hike again with everything becoming green around the trails. It was a mostly clear day with just a few clouds off in the distances. Summit temp was about 50 degrees with a 12 mph average wind. Making it a little cool if not moving around. The sunset was nice and the colors cast on the hills around the area made it great

  • Lower sections of the Halfway House Trail are greening up nicely
  • A couple Purple Violets found next to the trail
  • Another flower along the trail
  • A bit of a leveled off section of trail
  • A group of Purple Trillium next to the trail
  • Heading uphill again as the trail gets a little rocky
  • In short time, I'm already to the Halfway House Site
  • Looking out over the hills to the horizon
  • The clear area at the Halfway House Site
  • A rocky hump in the Fairy Spring Trail
  • Near the junction with the Smith Bypass Trail, there were some Painted Trillium ready to bloom
  • Bypassing the extra bit over Monte Rosa provides the best view of The Tooth
  • Starting to get some views out over the trees
  • Heading up the Smith Summit Trail as I start to come up to treeline
  • Nice views all over now just like this one over Bald Rock
  • Gap Mountain in the distance past Monte Rosa
  • A closer look at Gap Mountain
  • Looking across the southern edge of the mountain
  • Looking up the rocks towards the summit
  • With so much exposed rock on the mountain, you get many interesting views of the layers within the rock
