A quick hike up Mt. Monadnock after work to catch the sunset. I went up from the park headquarters so that I could climb the Spellman Trail on the way. The sunset was better than expected because it went behind some clouds just before setting, but showed through the gap as it went below the horizon

  • Early section of the White Dot Trail. It's been a while since I have been on this trail
  • Where the White Cross Trail forks off to the left. It looks like they had a sign go bad and have temporarily put up a paper one
  • At the start of the Cascade Link Trail on the right
  • The only real brook crossing on the Cascade Link. Easily done hoping from rock to rock
  • Heading up the Cascade Link further. Starting to get into spruce trees now
  • At the intersection with the Spellman Trail
  • The start of the Spellman Trail. My route up to the ridge
  • The trail goes next to this long exposed section of rock
  • A little climb to get up onto the rock
  • Getting to the rockier section of trail at the start of the steep climb
  • Some large rocks to climb over on the trail
  • An interesting band of different rock and minerals within the exposed rock next to the trail
  • Looking down the trail from the top of the steep climb. It drops off so steeply that you can hardly see the trail from above unless standing at the edge
  • View to the east as the sun gets low enough for the mountain to cast a shadow
  • Crotched Mtn
  • Pack Monadnock to the east
  • A single mountain to the south
  • Heading back into the woods after the steep climb
  • A easy to read marking at the intersection with the Pumpelly Trail
  • Heading up the Pumpelly Trail, I first need to climb down into this dip in the trail before going up again
