04-29-2017 Climb

My 1st hike of the year on Mt. Monadnock was a long loop hike that allowed me to revisit and remap some trails with my newer GPS. I started at the Old Toll Road trail head and headed up the mountain from there. I then looped around to come down to the Park Headquarters trail head before taking the Parker Trail to connect them back together. Overall the hike was 7.81 miles with a total of 2,464 feet of elevation gain

  • The ranger station and start of both the trail and the old toll road
  • Little bits of green are sprouting up in the woods
  • A nice easy section of trail
  • The entrance into a brief patch of softwoods that makes for a bit of a tunnel
  • Leaves starting to sprout
  • This large old tree fell over last winter, but still remains somewhat supported by it's trunk
  • I really liked this tree when it was standing. Not only was it big and right next to the trail, but due to the rotting insides (which caused it to fall), you could look straight through it in multiple directions
