02-03-2018 Climb

A winter hike on a nice sunny day. I hiked the mountain using the Dublin Trail both directions which doesn't see lots of winter traffic due to the road it starts from not being plowed near the trail head. The snow wasn't deep enough for snowshoes and there was plenty of ice underneath the snow. Overall the hike was 4.89 miles with a total of 1,921 feet of elevation gain

  • Shortly after leaving the parking lot and crossing the road is a bridge over an area that is wet when it isn't covered in snow
  • Footprints on the bridge and some definition of where the boards are
  • The slight uphill after the bridge
  • The trail following a small ravine that a brook flows through
  • Tracks from the 3 people ahead of me today
  • Tree bark on a yellow birch tree next to the trail
  • Starting to climb more steadily now
  • Tracks in the snow
  • A few old large dead trees right next to the trail
  • This section of trail can be wet nearly year round. It's no surprise that lots of ice can be seen under the snow
  • Just some of the ice under the snow
  • Looking further up the trail
  • This rocky section makes for a fun spot in the trail during the warmer months
  • A narrow pass through the rocks further up
  • A large exposed section of rock that the trail goes up and over. Features like this are what I like most about this trail
  • Starting to get some views
  • The trail heading through a small trough like area
  • The first wide open view to the north
  • Dublin Lake to the north
  • Crotched Mountain in the distance
