1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

North Crocker, South Crocker & Redington (14-16 of 67)

Peak numbers 14, 15, and 16 of 67 peaks for this year would require a second trip to Maine. The peaks would be Crocker Mountain, (4,228 ft), South Crocker Mountain (4,050 ft), and Mount Redington (4,010 ft). They were hiked on 6/28/14 where the conditions were mostly sunny to start with increasing clouds. The hike was 10.616 miles with 3,350 ft of vertical gain.

  • A nice spot to walk through between the peaks
  • After climbing steadily, the trail gets easier for a ways before the summit of North Crocker
  • The summit of North Crocker Mountain. This summit sign is only 60 feet shorter than the map claims
  • Miles sits on top of the sign taking a break
  • The Appalachian Trail boundary cut comes right up to the summit. If you go down it about 50 feet, there is a limited view
  • A nearby mountain
  • The small open area at the summit
  • After going back down into the saddle between the peaks, this is the trail heading back up South Crocker
  • South Crocker summit
  • South Crocker only has a view because a bunch of trees have been cut. This makes it kind of messy looking up here
  • Sugarloaf Mountain. One of tomorrow's peaks
  • A closer look at Sugarloaf Mountain
  • Spaulding Mountain. The other of tomorrow's peaks
  • Mt. Abraham off in the distance. I'll be back to hike that later this summer
  • Miles hanging out in a tree on the south Crocker summit
  • The start of the herd path commonly used to get to Mt. Redington. It is about 10-20 feet from the high spot on South Crocker
  • More open sections of the herd path looked like this. It was mostly easy to follow
  • Nearing the end of the herd path there is an old clear cut you must go through
  • The path is still easy to follow through the very grown in cut
  • The nice view west from the cut
