Mt. Katahdin, Hamlin Peak (48 of 67)

My second trip up to Baxter State Park in Maine to finish up my peaks there. This would be peak #48 in my quest for 67 in one year. I started off at the Roaring Brook Campground and headed up to Chimney Pond. From there it was up the Saddle Trail, over the summit, and then back down Hamlin Ridge. The entire hike was 10.9 miles with 3,229 feet of overall elevation gain and 3,884 feet total elevation gain. Almost the entire hike was done in the clouds with off and on light rain. On the summit the wind was averaging 14 mph and gusting up to 23 mph. This made the 50 degree temperature have a windchill of 44 degrees

  • This was as good as the view got looking into the North Basin

  • The trail working its way around some large rocks along the ridge
  • Back down into the trees
  • Time to trade the wet and slick rocks along the ridge for wet and slippery leaves in the woods
  • I thought once I was back into the trees I wouldn't have to go over large rocks again. Guess I was wrong
  • A rocky section of trail in the woods
  • Some interesting bridges back on the Chimney Pond Trail
  • The colors of fall are taking over, even on this cloudy and rainy day
