1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Killington Peak (57 of 67)

Peak 57 for this year would be Killington Peak in VT at 4,235 ft. I hiked it on 11-15-14 on a day that was sunny all day long. The wind was averaging 11 mph and gusting to 17 mph. This made the 11 degree temperature become a -4 degree wind chill. The hike was 8.14 miles with 2,393 feet of overall gain and 2,691 feet of total elevation gain.

  • View southwest with Mendon Peak on the right
  • Rutland, VT to the west
  • Looking down the western side of the mountain
  • Looking north from the summit over the ski area. Pico Peak is the next summit up the ridge
  • I was surprised to see how many skiers were out for some early season runs
  • Looking over the ski area
  • Pico Peak further up the ridgeline
  • Looking further into the Green mountains to the north
  • Looking down onto the ski resort
  • Looking over the summit to Mendon Peak
  • Looking north over the open summit
  • Looking west down into the valley I started in
  • Snow covered trees at the summit
  • A look at one of the towers on the summit. Possibly an old fire tower
  • The tower is just behind the summit
  • A closer look at the enclosure on the top of the tower
  • The Adirondacks in NY can be seen off in the distance
  • Coming back down the steep summit spur
  • The steep and rocky summit spur trail
  • Heading down the Long Trail below Cooper Lodge
