1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Mt. Lafayette & Mt. Lincoln (5-6 of 48)

The 5th and 6th Mountains would be combined into one trip with the first being Mt. Lafayette at 5,260 ft and then Mt. Lincoln at 5,089 ft.
This hike was approximately 7.39 miles in length and had an overall elevation gain of 3,557 ft or 3,787 ft for the round trip.
It was hiked on 9-11-10 on a day where the sun was shinning, there were hardly any clouds, and light wind. It was also the annual Flags on the 48 event where an American flag is flown on all of the 48 4,000+ foot mountains as a memorial for 9-11-01.

The start of the trail. Only 4 miles to the first summit

  • The start of the trail. Only 4 miles to the first summit
  • The trail starts off pretty easy
  • Only slightly up hill and quite smooth
  • An interesting tree on the trail
  • Starting to get a little steeper
  • And a little rockier
  • At the corner of a switchback I got my first glimpse of Mt. Lafayette
  • A little after that there was a little bit of a view South down the notch
  • North and South Kinsman are still in the clouds a little
  • My trail would continue up the ridge and to the summit on the right
  • The "agonies" as they are called that lie ahead
  • A small slide down the cliff
  • The summit of Mt. Lafayette
  • I'm already high enough that the trees have a hard life
  • Morning dew still on the trees
  • The trail continues up the peak of the ridge
  • This section is scattered with good views of the summits above
  • The trail is right near the edge of the steep ridge
  • Almost a full view down the notch
  • The ridge leading up to Mt. Lafayette and also Mt. Lincoln just on the right side of the photo
