The 31st of 67 peaks this year would be Mt. Abraham (4,050 ft) in Maine. It was hiked on 8/9/14 when the weather was sunny and pleasant. It was 60 degrees at the summit and the wind was averaging 11 mph with gusts up to 17 mph. The hike was 8.933 miles with 3,374 ft of elevation gain

  • On the way to Maine for the weekend of hiking, I passed this barn on the side of the road

  • With the bridges washed out, parking is now before the two crossings of Ladd Brook, which need to be crossed on foot
  • After a brief walk up an old logging road (now OHRV trail) you come to the old trail head
  • Sign at the old trail head. The cabin mentioned no longer exists and is now tent sites
  • One of multiple brook crossings on the way to the old cabin site
  • At a crossing of another OHRV trail
  • The hiking trail heading back into the woods
  • The first couple miles of trail are quite easy and are similar to this
  • The last brook crossing before the old cabin site and the trail turns up the mountain getting steeper
  • Now heading up the side of the mountain, this is one of many blow downs. This tree was easy to walk under though
  • Coming out of the trees onto the lose rocks

  • Looking back down the trail. A small sign can be seen where the trail comes out of the trees
  • Mt. Spaulding and Sugarloaf Mtn. can be seen to the north
  • Some smaller mountains to the northeast
  • You can see patches of past logging on this mountain
  • Blueberries high up on the mountain. Might be time for a snack
