1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Mt. Carrigain (56 of 67)

Peak 56 for this year would be Mt. Carrigain at 4,700 ft. I hiked it on 11-8-14 on a day that was started a little cloudy and became more sunny. The wind was averaging 16 mph and gusting to 19 mph. This made the 19 degree temperature become a 2 degree wind chill. The hike was 10.5 miles with 3,392 feet of overall gain and 3,572 feet of total elevation gain.

  • The fire tower is in sight
  • Looking northeast from Signal Ridge
  • The view southwest is a bit more blocked by trees along the ridge
  • Rime ice sticking to the trees along the ridge
  • Back into the trees for the final climb to the summit, there is now about 6 inches of fluffy snow on the ground
  • The view northeast from the fire tower on the summit
  • The view to the west from the summit
  • Mt. Liberty and Mt. Lafayette behind Owl's Head
  • The rime ice on the fire tower was pretty impressive
  • Rime ice on the corner of the tower
  • View to the north
  • It was interesting seeing the elevation where snow started to stick to the trees on the other mountains
  • The view to the west from the summit
  • Looking west towards the Pemigewasset Wilderness. You can see the snowline on multiple peaks
  • The southern end of the Pemigewasset Wilderness
  • Texture of the rime ice
  • Looking down to Signal Ridge from the summit
  • Rime ice built up on the summit tower
  • Looking at the Bonds and Twins
  • Mt. Tom, Mt. Field, and Mt. Willey. The western side of Crawford Notch
