With a cloudy warm November day, it was time to hike the viewless Mt. Hale so that I could finally make a loop of it and redline the Lend-A-Hand Trail. While this is my third time up the mountain, it would be my first time here without snow on the ground. Today's hike was 9.10 miles (including the road walk) with a total of 2,581 feet of elevation gain

  • Mt. Hale's summit is open, but with tall enough trees to not have a view. There is a pile of rocks at the top that is likely from when there was once a fire tower on top
  • Anchors from the four corners of the old fire tower can be seen on the summit. Three are out in the open while one is just hidden by some branches of a tree
  • Sign at the summit for the Lend-A-Hand Trail. This is the trail I was redlining today

  • One of the Gray Jays at the summit. If you look at his left leg, you can actually see a metal band that has been attached to him for some kind of tracking purpose

  • There are many unmarked paths leaving the summit that mostly seem to go to random spots people use for the bathroom, but this one leads to the old Fire Warden's Trail from back when there was a fire tower

  • I found the patterns in this lichen to be interesting
  • The guide book mentioned a side path leading to a view of Carrigain Notch. While the path isn't marked and would be easy to miss, this is that view
