Mt. Mansfield (67 of 67)

The 67th and final peak for my goal of the New England 67 in one year would be Mt. Mansfield at 4,393 ft. I hiked it 1-24-15 which was the last possible day of the time frame I gave myself. The day started off with some clouds and became more sunny as it went on. The wind was averaging 9 mph with gusts of 11 mph which made the summit temperature of 24 degrees feel like 13. The hike was 6.13 miles with 2,860 feet of overall gain and 3,113 feet of total elevation gain.

  • The trail heads to the hillside then turns left to go up it
  • The Long Trail was packed down pretty wide in places due to the amount of skier traffic coming down it
  • A short steep climb on the trail

  • A nice level section through some open hardwoods
  • Tracks from skiers all over the place
  • Even more tracks from skiers. With the lack of any noticeable trail blazes through many sections, this made it harder to know if you were following the correct path

  • Taft Lodge. While it is open to go into, I decided not to climb down into it today

  • Heading up the Profanity Trail. Well, I think I was. There was very little previous tracks and I only ever saw one blaze before making it to the ridge

  • Looking back down the steep trail with another hiker that I started climbing with coming up behind me
  • Looks like the top of the trail is getting closer
  • The mountainside next to the trail is steep and rocky
  • Looking back down over the ski area
  • Up on the summit ridge nearing the top
  • Finally at the summit. Now completing my goal of summiting all 67 New England 4Ks within one year
