1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Mt. Moosilauke 7.31.2021

Fourth time is the charm for getting good views in all directions from Mt. Moosilauke. With a good weather forecast, I took advantage to finally get beautiful 360 degree views that Mt. Moosilauke has to offer. In my previous three hikes of the Mountain I have only had partial or no views from the top, but today I got great views in every direction. I took a route up that is far less used than any of the direct routes to the summit so that I could avoid the crowds some (it worked great) and also redline some more miles in this region. It was a great day for the 11.8 mile hike which had a total elevation gain of 3,435 feet

  • After a very short level walk, the split of the Asquam-Ridge Trail (left) and the Al Merrill Loop (right). I went to the right
  • One of a few small bridges going up the Al Merrill Loop
  • The trail follows old woods roads gently uphill until it's high point making for a nice easy start to the day
  • There were a few small trees down on the trail and also this larger one. Everything was easy to get over or around today
  • Indian Pipe
  • Informative signs at the outlook at the high point of the Al Merrill Loop
  • The outlook on the Al Merrill Loop with the summit of Mt. Moosilauke obscured by clouds
  • The summit looks to be in the clouds still, but hopefully will be clear later
  • The summit of Mt. Blue is just below the clouds, so there is hope they will clear higher up
  • The trail heading away from the outlook before going back downhill to the Asquam-Ridge Trail
  • Going downhill now, but still with good footing
  • Sign at the junction
  • Asquam-Ridge Trail heading up away from the junction
  • A blow down that has been cut up enough to get by
  • A look at the ferns along the trail
  • A little bit rockier on the Asquam-Ridge Trail while climbing steadily
  • More smaller rocks ahead
  • This moss looks kind of like green hair growing off the rocks
  • Patterns in the rocks
  • A small hemlock growing out from between some rocks in the trail
