The 9th mountain would be Mt. Moriah at 4,049 ft.
This hike was approximately 9 miles in length and had an overall elevation gain of 3,304 ft.
It was hiked on 3-15-11 on a day where the sun was shinning, there were almost no clouds, temps just below freezing on the summit, and almost no wind.

  • The trailhead at the small parking lot on Bangor St.
  • The trail starts off pretty gentle
  • Starting to get a couple of moderate climbs early on
  • Starting to get some sun over the mountains onto the trail
  • With snowshoe tracks to follow, I was able to bare boot this hike for quite a while
  • A very limited view so far on the trail
  • Just before Mt. Surprise, the trees opened up providing a view of the Presidential Range to the Southwest
  • Mt. Adams and Mt. Madison
  • Mt. Washington
  • A closer view of the summit of Mt. Washington
  • Gulf of slides
  • The trail opens up some after Mt. Surprise on some ledges
  • Starting to get a view to the North
  • Looking Northeast along the mountain
  • On the ledges you get more views over to the Presidential Range
  • Looking back down into Gorham
  • A clear view to the Southwest
  • Presidential Range
  • Slide Peak, Boott Spur, and Mt. Washington
  • Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Adams, and Mt. Madison
