1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Mt. Waumbek (55 of 67)

Peak 55 for this year would be Mt. Waumbek at 4,006 ft. I hiked it on 11-2-14 on a day that was overcast with clouds that allowed some views from the peak. It was 22 degrees on the summit with little wind. The hike was 7.2 miles with 2,466 feet of overall gain and 3,173 feet of total elevation gain.

  • The trees along the ridgeline
  • Back to the viewpoint on Mt. Starr King. The clouds have come down some and the <a href="http://sdways01.smugmug.com/New-England-4K/Mt-Waumbek-55-of-67/i-NzWXHrV">limited view I had before</a> is now gone
  • Coming back down the trail in the spruce trees
  • Back down into the open hardwoods

  • Just a thin layer of snow again with the trail a bit wet
  • Back down below the snow on the way out
  • The spring that once feed the old <a href="http://sdways01.smugmug.com/New-England-4K/Mt-Waumbek-55-of-67/i-JSsmQxf">spring house</a> next to the trail
  • Back in the car on the way home, Rt. 115A passes through this large field and provides a nice view (<a href="http://sdways01.smugmug.com/New-England-4K/Mt-Waumbek/i-bb2FWs3">normally</a>) of the Presidential Range
