Mt. Waumbek (55 of 67)

Peak 55 for this year would be Mt. Waumbek at 4,006 ft. I hiked it on 11-2-14 on a day that was overcast with clouds that allowed some views from the peak. It was 22 degrees on the summit with little wind. The hike was 7.2 miles with 2,466 feet of overall gain and 3,173 feet of total elevation gain.

Waumbek8034

  • From this opening, there is a limited view towards the Presidential Range
  • Along the trail as it goes over the ridge. About 2 inches of snow in places was found through here
  • A painted blaze on this tree shows how the bark expands as the tree gets bigger
  • The actual summit of Mt. Waumbek. A very small opening with a cairn and fallen tree to sit on

  • This sign is also at the summit. There is no intersection though as the trail just crosses over the summit as it heads towards the Weeks peaks and Mt. Cabot

  • As I was looking at the view, I noticed this cloud of snow all of a sudden appear out of the trees as a gust of wind hit the hill with enough force to make it

  • It looked like the sun wanted to try and come through here, but it never did
