1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Mt. Waumbek (55 of 67)

Peak 55 for this year would be Mt. Waumbek at 4,006 ft. I hiked it on 11-2-14 on a day that was overcast with clouds that allowed some views from the peak. It was 22 degrees on the summit with little wind. The hike was 7.2 miles with 2,466 feet of overall gain and 3,173 feet of total elevation gain.

  • Signs at the start of the trail
  • Heading up a gentle grade while passing an old spring house
  • Looking down into the spring house, you can see the pipe to send the water downhill is still there
  • You can tell where the wall/cover of the spring house once was based on the concrete work that remains
  • Heading up the trail past the spring house
  • Before the trail turns off the old road, there starts to be just a bit of snow on the ground
  • Some of the snow on a dried up leaf

  • The trail gets a bit steeper after it leaves the old road
  • Looking through the trees from the trail
  • Where the trail makes the transition from open hardwoods to thick softwoods
  • More snow on the ground as you get higher up the mountain
