2. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

North Tripyramid & Middle Tripyramid (62-63 of 67)

Peaks 62 and 63 for this year would be North Tripyramid at 4,180 ft and Middle Tripyarmid at 4,140 ft. I hiked them on 12-27-14 on a day that was sunny to start but became more cloudy as the afternoon went on. The wind was averaging 4 mph which made the summit temperature of 25 degrees feel like 22. The hike was 12.5 miles including a road walk with 2,789 feet of overall gain and 3,465 feet of total elevation gain.

  • The trail between the summits wasn't very well defined with almost no tracks to follow due to how hard the surface was

  • Foolishly, I decided to descend the Sabbaday Brook Trail. This was a steep section that I actually came down backwards due to slick snow conditions
  • Coming down the trail forward here would have been more like skiing
  • The trail following along the brook before doing the major crossings and getting so soft that I was slowed way down
