Whiteface & Passaconaway (50-51 of 67)

Peaks 50 and 51 for this year would be Mt. Whiteface at 4,020 ft and Mt. Passaconaway at 4,043 ft. I hiked them on 10-19-14 on a day that started off sunny and gradually become more cloudy. • The view from the parking lot. Mt Whiteface is on the left and Mt Wonalancet is on the right
  • Entering the Sandwich Range Wilderness on an easy section of the Dicey's Mill Trail
  • Sandwich Range Wilderness sign
  • The trails today were covered with a fresh layer of newly fallen leaves
  • At the intersection of the Tom Wiggin Trail. Despite the warning, I'm still taking it
  • The start of the Tom Wiggin Trail, including an easy to walk under blow down
  • This brook crossing is near the start of the trail. I went just up stream of the trail and crossed in the area seen here without any issues
  • The Tom Wiggin Trail goes to the left of this large boulder with a bit of an overhang to it
  • Some vegetation is growing on top of the boulder
  • The trail is starting to get steeper now
  • Heading up the steep sections of trail, the layer of leaves was surprisingly only a little bit slippery
  • Up into the conifers now, the leaves on the ground are gone, but replaced with rocks
  • Up onto the Blueberry Ledge Trail now
  • Heading into some thicker trees along the ridge
  • My first nice view of the day. Looking southwest from an opening along the trail
  • Flat Mtn, and Sandwich Dome to the west
  • Smaller peaks to the west
  • Coming up to the real ledges along the trail
  • The trail goes right past the straggly looking tree and straight up the rocks behind
  • A look at the holes where metal rungs use to be attached to make this section easier
