1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Whiteface & Passaconaway (50-51 of 67)

Peaks 50 and 51 for this year would be Mt. Whiteface at 4,020 ft and Mt. Passaconaway at 4,043 ft. I hiked them on 10-19-14 on a day that started off sunny and gradually become more cloudy. It was 32 degrees on the summits with wind gusting to 21 mph. The hike was 12.0 miles with 2,903 feet of overall gain and 4,646 feet of total elevation gain.

• A closer look at the nearby peaks
• Coming back down the marking making a loop around the summit area to hit some sections of trail I haven't been on before
• A small brook crossing the trail
• In this section, the water was flowing right down the trail
• Water flowing down the trail
• Seeing how wet this section of trail was today, it's no surprise that the last time I was here this section was a huge ice bulge
• Coming down the Diceys' Mill Trail, this large dead tree had to be cut up with an ax so hikers could get through
• Getting further down, the Dicey's Mill Trail is pretty easy
• The river crossing today on the trail is pretty easy. The water was relatively low, but the tree on the right provided a dry path across
• Looking up stream, there are a couple other trees that could be used for crossing
• This large White Birch tree was right next to the trail. It was over 2 feet in diameter at the base
• A nice bridge crosses the stream further down in the area of the Blueberry Ridge cutoff trail
• With so many leaves on the trail today, I kept getting a build up on my trekking poles
