1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Wildcat D & Wildcat Mtn (64-65 of 67)

Peaks 64 and 65 for this year would be Wildcat Mtn. D Peak at 4,062 ft and Wildcat Mtn. A Peak at 4,422 ft. I hiked them on 1-2-15 on a day that was cloudy with steady and gusting wind. The wind was averaging 18 mph with gusts of 27 mph which made the summit temperature of 7 degrees feel like -14. The hike was 8.69 miles with 2,500 feet of overall gain and 3,580 feet of total elevation gain.

  • The gradual descent on the way back from the summit
  • A small opening on the trail with some sun shinning through
  • A little bit of blue sky finally. It didn't stay long
  • Looking over to Wildcat D Peak from the trail
  • A closer look at the summit
  • Wind was whipping around the snow in places along the ridge
  • Here the trail heads between some large rocks
  • Snow clings to the moss and other vegetation that clings to the rock
  • A nice spot along the trail
  • The look back up the range from the summit of D Peak. Wildcat Mtn (A Peak) is on the right with some of the Carters visible on the left
  • A closer look at A Peak
  • Some of the Carters off in the distance
  • View from the summit platform on D Peak. If the clouds weren't in the way, you would be able to see some of the Presidential Range here
  • The view towards Mt. Washington. You just can't see it today
  • View to the southwest
  • View north towards Gorham
  • A little bit of a view to the north
  • Clouds clearing a bit looking up the range
  • Miles getting in his second summit photo of the day
  • Coming back down the ski slopes as the sun starts to get behind the Presidential Range
