1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Mt. Wildcat "D" Peak & Mt. Wildcat (21-22 of 48)

The 21st and 22nd mountains would be combined into one trip with the first being Mt. Wildcat "D" Peak at 4,050 ft and then Mt. Wildcat at 4,422 ft.
This hike was approximately 7.2 miles in length and had an overall elevation gain of 2,943 ft.
They were hiked on 11-19-11 which turned out to be a sunny day after a cloudy start. Wind was expected to be pretty high, but it wasn't bad on these peaks. The high temp for the day on the peaks was around 32 degrees.

  • Driving up Rt. 16 to the trailhead there were some caps clouds going over Mt. Washington
  • The start of the trail crossing the Ellis River
  • Just a tenth of a mile up the trail and it heads uphill steeply
  • Plenty of rocks to climb up
  • The trail heads right up the steep mountain side and occasionally skirts along the exposed side
  • Looking back down at Rt. 16
  • A snow capped Mt. Washington across the valley
  • Mt. Madison
  • Still heading up the steep and rocky mountain side.  There was a coating of snow the entire length of the trail
  • A limited view between two birch trees
  • The summit of Mt. Washington
  • Mt. Adams and Mt. Madison at the upper end of the Presidential Range
  • Mt. Washington
  • A panoramic view from South to North at an open ledge along the trail
  • Mt. Adams and Mt. Madison behind Nelson Crag
  • Hey, I can see my truck from here
  • Glen Ellis Falls parking area from above
  • Glen Ellis Falls down in the valley
  • A brief level spot next to a small opening
