1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Zealand Mtn, West Bond, Mt. Bond, Bondcliff (45-48 of 48)

The 45th, 46th, 47th, and 48th mountains would be combined into one trip with the first being Zealand Mtn at 4,260 ft, then West Bond at 4,540 ft, then Mt. Bond at 4,698 ft, and then Bondcliff at 4,265 ft.
This hike was approximately 18.4 miles in length and had an overall elevation gain of 3,753 ft.
They were hiked on 6-30-12 which was a sunny and mostly clear day. Clouds came in a little more in the afternoon with a chance of night showers. It was about 70 degrees on the summits, the wind was averaging 12 mph, and it was gusting up to 24 mph. This hike had some great views and interesting terrain. I look forward to going back again, possibly making it a two day trip so I have more time to enjoy the views.

  • Zealand Falls Hut. Everyone was inside finishing up breakfast and packing up their belongings
  • As I came up to the trail to the Zealand Falls Hut, I saw someone running around in a chicken suit. That could only mean it was breakfast time and time to talk about folding the blankets (once lengthwise and twice widthwise), packing out your trash, and tipping the croo
  • Heading up the Twinway Trail is a little steep and rocky for a good length
  • View from Zeacliff
  • Looking out over Zealand Notch towards the lower end of Crawford Notch
  • The Hancocks to the south with the Osceolas behind and to the right
  • A short steep bit on the ridge just past Zeacliff Pond
  • A view north to Mt. Hale over the trees
  • Looking back over the trail to Mt. Hale
  • South and North Twin Mtns behind the trees
