1. New England 4000+ ft Mountains

Zealand Mtn. (49 of 67)

The 49th peak in my quest for 67 in one year would be Zealand Mountain. A good peak to do on a cloudy day as it doesn't have much for views. The hike was 12.6 miles with 2,221 ft overall elevation gain and 3,095 ft total elevation gain. It was cloudy to start, but cleared up partially later in the day. It was 38 degrees on the summit with very little wind

  • A large rock that requires some work to get over
  • Up to the intersection with the Twinway Trail
  • The Twinway Trail leaving the intersection and heading towards the summit
  • A gentle section of trail near the Zeacliff Pond Spur
  • A short steep section has a small ladder added to help hikers
  • A better look at the ladder section
  • Further up the Twinway Trail, there are some limited views. This one is over towards Mt. Hale
  • A small view over towards North Twin Mountain
  • A view south towards Carrigain Notch
  • A closer look into Carrigain Notch
  • Mt. Washington can be seen off in the distance and appears to have some early season snow on the summit
  • While taking pictures, this Gray Jay came by looking for food. I didn't have anything to give him today
  • An easy section of trail shortly before the summit spur
  • Looking into the woods next to the trail shows some tightly packed trees
  • Miles climbed up onto the summit sign for today's picture
  • The exciting summit of Zealand Mtn.
  • Heading back down the mountain, this is one of the few small obstacles to go over
  • The last time I was here I didn't make it down to Zeacliff Pond, so I made sure to do that today
  • The northern edge of Zeacliff Pond
  • Looking out over Zeacliff Pond
