Forty Foot Falls - Surry, NH

Located in Surry, NH, Forty Foot Falls is a series of 3 cascades spread out a little bit along Merriam Brook. The lower cascades are right near a pull off on the road, while the middle and upper cascades require some walking up stream. How close you can get to them will partly depend on water levels as the ravine they are in can be pretty steep and rocky and each side of the brook. When I explored them, water flow was pretty low. I'll definitely go back when the flow is higher

  • Further down through the rocky gorge, is this small cascade that drops into a nice pool
  • A nice pool in the stream
  • Water flowing into the pool
  • This is the largest single drop and based on the information I found it's likely to be main waterfall the area is named for. The interesting feature is that with the low water flow today, the waterfall is behind most of these rocks. I bet it is more impressive in the spring time

  • I had to take off my shoes and walk/climb through the water and over the rocks to get to this spot
